dllhost (also knows as COM surrogate) is a program that usually runs at the request of other programs allowing it to load extensions (COM) but not at the risk of breaking the original program. Because the extension is run by the dllhost, if the extension causes problems it only affects the dllhost, thus isolating program extensions from intefering with the original program and affecting Windows
