Avast Anti-Virus fails to scan installer correctly - easy fix

Avast fails to identify installer

This scenario is observed when Avast takes too long to check the main installation file and causes the overall installation to terminate.

The observed behaviour is file submission to the Avast CyberWatch database, however the submission process doesn't inform the installer about the validity of the file and hangs the installer instead

Fix for Avast

1

Navigate to your downloads folder and optionally scan the installation file you downloaded. This will ensure the file hasn't been tampered with since download.

2

Right click on the Avast icon in the System Tray

3

Choose to disable the shield controls for 10 minutes

  • This will not turn off your Avast Anti-Virus Engine completely
  • This will allow enough time for the installer to run without interference

4

Avast will confirm your intentions. Click OK to tell Avast to go ahead and let you run the installer in the next 10 minutes.

Windows may alert you of your actions, but since this is temporary there's no need to take action to this notification

5

Restart the installer by going to your downloads folder, select the program you downloaded, right click, open

6

The installer launches normally. Agree to the terms and conditions and click Install

7

If you have UAC turned on, expect the routine UAC prompt asking you if you want to install the software

8

Wait for the installer to complete, and click the Launch button

8

The application should now launch without issues
